I got some India ink and some proper dip pens. I’ve been on such a rough drawing kick lately. It’s so much fun to let your mind wonder and just to draw using ink and a pen. Definitely channeling some Searle vibes today. I urge everyone out there to switch up there style from time to time. You never know what cool results you will stumble upon.
Here is a little progress post. The bottom left is my terrible first try, then another rough sketch with a far more confident pose and finally my finished version at the top. Keep going and always work through those shitty first passes, that’s what its all about.
Here is a character that I have been playing around with for a little bit. He’s supposed to be the “One eyed, one horned, flying purple people eater” I forgot about the flying part so there is no wings lol. When I went to CTN the biggest critique I got was that I never showed any rough exploratory work. So I’m going to try and show any rough drawings that I have with my designs coming up. Now I just need to invest in a proper scanner, my iPhone camera isn’t quite cutting it haha.
Today I went back to playing around with “The Good Dinosaur” concepts. When I met John Nevarez at CTN he told me to try and infuse some more story elements into my designs and to also work rougher and on paper. I really like this approach. It forces you to draw quick and to forget about adding all the photoshop gloss. I heard this project is shelved for the next while but if anyone from Pixar is listening,I’m available ;)
